Objectives

EXPO’PED is proposing an original study of the walking mobility of elderly people in a neighbourhood and their exposure to atmospheric pollutants on a micro-local scale.

Specific actions

A dozen volunteers carried out three air quality measurement campaigns in their neighbourhoods in autumn 2022, winter and spring 2023, using sensors to measure fine particles and nitrogen dioxides that were loaned to them.

Project description

EXPO’PED is proposing an original study of the walking mobility of elderly people in a neighbourhood and their exposure to atmospheric pollutants on a micro-local scale. Relying on a multidisciplinary team of geographers, computer scientists and urban environment specialists, the project has developed and combined a smartphone application for monitoring pedestrian routes with sensors for measuring air quality and an in situ audit of walkability and perceptions of air quality, all as part of a participatory approach.

An effective protocole for taking these various measurements have been gradually co-constructed with volunteers during 3 measurement campaigns in the autumn of 2022, winter and spring of 2023.

The data collected is currently being analysed.
